Yamaha FG-75-1

The Yamaha FG-75-1 was produced from 1974 to 1976, succeeding the earlier Red label FG-75 and representing a clear step forward in tone. It appeared across three label eras: the Tan label (1972–1975, Japan and Taiwan), the Black label (1974–1977, Japan and Taiwan), and the Orange label (1974–1985, Japan only). Its spruce top, agathis back and sides, and nato neck yield a deeper, more balanced sound than the compact body suggests, owing in part to its notably deep body cavity. The FG-75-1 is also exceptionally lightweight, with examples recorded at around 3.3 lbs — well under the 4–4.5 lbs typical of dreadnought-sized FGs from the same period. Most examples lack internal date codes, making the serial number the primary dating tool.
