Yamaha FG-75
The Yamaha FG-75 is a folk-size acoustic produced from 1968 to 1974, built in both Japan and Taiwan. Its construction centers on a spruce top with agathis back and sides and a nato neck. Label era is a useful dating tool for surviving examples: red labels were used from 1967 to 1972 on guitars from both Japan and Taiwan; tan labels followed from 1972 to 1975, again covering both production origins; black labels ran from 1974 to 1977 across Japan and Taiwan; and orange labels appeared from 1974 to 1985 on Japanese-made instruments only. The body is compact with a rounded-shoulder profile, smaller than a standard dreadnought, finished in natural with a dark pickguard and dot position markers. Owners describe a balanced, responsive voice that is comfortable for strumming, folk, and fingerstyle playing. Some surviving examples were converted to nine-string configuration with banjo tuners for double-course bass strings, and late-sixties Nippon Gakki examples are noted for sounding bigger than their budget-tier price suggests. No players have been formally documented in association with this model.
