Yamaha FG-600S

The Yamaha FG-600S was produced from 1973 to 1974, featuring a spruce top with mahogany back, sides, and African mahogany neck. Buyers dating one of these guitars should pay close attention to the label: tan labels cover 1972–1975 production from both Japan and Taiwan, black labels run 1974–1977 from Japan and Taiwan, and orange labels span 1974–1985 from Japan only. Notably, collector research has turned up an FG-600S bearing serial number 40418 with date code 49.3.7, which appears to be among the earliest documented orange-label Nippon Gakki instruments — predating the next known orange-label example by roughly eighteen months, suggesting some overlap between tan and orange label production during this transitional period.
