Yamaha FG-512
The Yamaha FG-512 is a twelve-string jumbo produced in Japan and Taiwan from 1977 to 1981, with a spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck. Depending on production origin and period, examples may carry a black label (used in Japan and Taiwan from 1974 to 1977), an orange label (Japan only, 1974 to 1985), or a white oval label (Taiwan only, 1977 to 2001), making the label the most reliable starting point for buyers attempting to date or locate a specific build. The closed-headstock revision is the more sought-after build, with a full, shimmering harmonic texture that comes from the matured solid spruce paired with rosewood. Finish cracking where the neck meets the body is the typical visible wear pattern on survivors.
