Yamaha FG-401W
The Yamaha FG-401W is a dreadnought acoustic built in Japan and Taiwan between 1975 and 1978, featuring an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and an African mahogany neck. Depending on when and where a given example was made, it may carry one of several interior labels: the tan label (used in Japan and Taiwan from 1972 to 1975), the black label (Japan and Taiwan, 1974–1977), the orange label (Japan only, 1974–1985), or the white oval label (Taiwan only, 1977–2001). Production for the Japanese domestic market under the orange label is the most commonly encountered configuration, which explains why these guitars rarely surface outside Japan. The source text notes that the FG-401W was inspired visually and tonally by the Gibson Hummingbird, and owners describe clear projection, strong note definition, and sustained resonance. No players have been documented in association with this model.
