Yamaha FG-401B

The Yamaha FG-401B is a dreadnought acoustic produced in Japan between 1978 and 1980. Guitars from this run carry an orange label, the label variant Yamaha used for Japanese-built FGs from 1974 through 1985; a white oval label indicates a Taiwanese example from the 1977–2001 production window, making the label one of the most reliable tools for dating and locating a specific instrument. The FG-401B features an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a nato neck. The source text notes a decorative three-piece rosewood back construction, along with an ebony fingerboard and bridge. The rosewood back and sides give the guitar a clearer, more articulate response than the mahogany-backed orange-label FGs of the same era, while retaining the warmth the late-seventies Japanese FG line is known for. No players have been documented in association with this model.
