Yamaha FG-400D
The Yamaha FG-400D is an orange-label dreadnought produced at the Nippon Gakki factory in Japan from 1980 to 1986, carrying either an orange label (used on Japanese-market instruments from 1974 to 1985) or a white oval label (used on Taiwan-built examples from 1977 to 2001), making label type a reliable first step in dating a surviving guitar. Construction features a solid Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a nato neck. Abalone binding and gold Yamaha tuners distinguish it visually from plainer orange-label models in the same period. Owners describe a balanced voice that leans bright. Stable splits at the bottom bout and finish clouding from humidity exposure are common conditions found on surviving examples.
