Yamaha FG-340

The Yamaha FG-340 is a dreadnought acoustic produced from 1977 to 1981, built in both Japan and Taiwan. The top is spruce, with mahogany back and sides and a nato neck. Label era helps date individual examples: the black label ran from 1974 to 1977 across Japan and Taiwan; the orange label covered 1974 to 1985 and is Japan-only; the white oval label began in 1977 and is Taiwan-only, running through 2001. A notable construction detail appearing on some examples is a three-piece back with contrasting wood grain and a decorative center strip. Owners describe a powerful, deep, bass-heavy voice with strong projection. Headstock repairs are a common sight on survivors, and the binding often yellows toward cream with age.
