Yamaha FG-340

The Yamaha FG-340 is a dreadnought acoustic produced from 1977 to 1981 in both Japan and Taiwan, with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a nato neck. Depending on origin and date, examples may carry a black label, an orange label, or a white oval label: the black label appears on both Japanese and Taiwanese instruments from 1974 to 1977; the orange label on Japanese guitars from 1974 to 1985; and the white oval label exclusively on Taiwanese production from 1977 to 2001. A notable construction detail found on some examples is a three-piece back. Owners describe a powerful, deep, bass-heavy voice with strong projection. Headstock repairs are a common sight on survivors, and the binding often yellows toward cream with age.
