Yamaha FG-335

The Yamaha FG-335 is a dreadnought built in Japan and Taiwan between 1977 and 1981, carrying a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a nato neck. Label identification is one of the most reliable dating tools for this model: black labels appeared from 1974 to 1977 on guitars made in both Japan and Taiwan, orange labels ran from 1974 to 1985 on Japanese production only, and the white oval label was used exclusively on Taiwanese instruments from 1977 through 2001. A buyer examining an FG-335 can therefore narrow the origin and approximate production window by checking which label is present inside the body. Owners describe a powerful, bass-heavy voice with strong projection. Survivors often need re-glued tuner screw holes given how the originals were torqued in over decades, but the gold-logo headstock and original wood truss rod cover usually stay intact.
