Yamaha FG-335
The Yamaha FG-335 is a dreadnought built in Japan and Taiwan from 1977 to 1981, carrying a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a nato neck. Label dating is one of the most reliable tools for placing these guitars: the black label ran from 1974 to 1977 and covered both Japanese and Taiwanese production, the orange label ran from 1974 to 1985 on Japanese-made instruments only, and the white oval label ran from 1977 to 2001 on Taiwanese examples exclusively. Because the FG-335 spans all three eras, checking which label is inside is the quickest way to narrow down a guitar's origin and approximate year. Owners describe a powerful, bass-heavy voice with strong projection. Survivors often need re-glued tuner screw holes given how the originals were torqued in over decades, but the gold-logo headstock and original wood truss rod cover usually stay intact. No players are formally documented as associated with this model.
