Yamaha FG-312

The Yamaha FG-312 is a twelve-string dreadnought produced from 1977 to 1981 in Japan and Taiwan. Depending on origin and era, examples may carry a black label (used in Japan and Taiwan from 1974 to 1977), an orange label (Japan only, 1974 to 1985), or a white oval label (Taiwan only, 1977 to 2001), making the label one of the most reliable tools for dating and locating a specific instrument. Construction features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a nato neck. Slot-headstock versions are among the more distinctive examples of the model. Replacement tuners for slot-head units are notoriously hard to source, as original-fit pegs have been obsolete for decades and standard aftermarket sets do not fit. Top sinking and bridge lift are the primary structural concerns to inspect before purchase. No notable players are documented.
