Yamaha FG-301B
The Yamaha FG-301B is an orange label dreadnought built at Nippon Gakki in Japan from 1978 to 1980. The orange label was used for Japanese domestic market instruments from 1974 to 1985, while a white oval label identified Taiwan-built examples from 1977 to 2001, making the label a reliable starting point when dating a specific guitar. Construction features an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a nato neck. The Ezo spruce used on these guitars was grown in Japan and was a hallmark of Nippon Gakki production during this period. Survivors deliver strong projection and a balanced, lively response that works equally well for strumming or fingerstyle. Original Yamaha hard cases are an increasingly rare inclusion on these.
