Yamaha FG-301
The Yamaha FG-301 is a dreadnought produced from 1975 to 1978, built in both Japan and Taiwan, with an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and an African mahogany neck. Depending on when and where a given example was made, it may carry one of several labels: the tan label (used 1972–1975 in Japan and Taiwan), the black label (1974–1977, Japan and Taiwan), the orange label (1974–1985, Japan only), or the white oval label (1977–2001, Taiwan only), making the label one of the most reliable tools for dating a specific instrument. The back on some examples is noted as three-piece. Owners describe good chord separation and pleasant overtones, with the kind of articulate response that comes from solid-wood-feeling laminate over rosewood. Survivors often turn up with light pick-holder discoloration on the upper bout, since these were a popular working guitar. No players have been formally documented in association with this model.
