Yamaha FG-300D

The Yamaha FG-300D is a dreadnought produced from 1980 to 1986, built in Japan under the orange label era (1974–1985) and in Taiwan under the white oval label era (1977–2001), making label identification a useful first step for buyers trying to date a specific example. The guitar combines an Ezo spruce top with American walnut back and sides and a nato neck. The walnut behaves tonally like rosewood, producing a balanced response with a lively attack, and the combination of tonewoods yields strong projection and an expansive low end that remains controlled rather than muddy. The neck is slightly thicker than current Yamaha production, which contributes to a solid, expansive voice, and many surviving examples have had neck resets to bring the action back into range.
