Yamaha FG-251B

The Yamaha FG-251B is an orange-label dreadnought built in Japan from 1978 to 1980. Buyers dating their instrument should know that the orange label ran from 1974 to 1985 and was used exclusively on Japanese-made guitars, while the white oval label, covering 1977 to 2001, identifies Taiwanese production. The FG-251B carries an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a nato neck, placing it a clear step above the entry-level orange-label FGs in materials. It delivers strong projection, a warm low end, and articulate highs that have opened up over decades of play. Compared with the standard FG-251, the 251B represents upgraded construction and materials, making it attractive to both players and collectors of vintage Yamaha acoustics. Many survivors show repaired back-to-side seams near the heel block and high action that points to future setup work. No players have been specifically documented in association with this model.
