Yamaha FG-251B
The Yamaha FG-251B is an orange-label dreadnought built in Japan from 1978 to 1980. Buyers dating their instrument should know that two label variants exist: the orange label, used on Japanese-built guitars from 1974 to 1985, and the white oval label, used on Taiwan-built examples from 1977 to 2001. The guitar carries an Ezo spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a nato neck, placing it a clear step above entry-level orange-label FGs in materials. It was not distributed through standard US channels, which partly explains why survivors surface less frequently in the North American market. Projection is strong, with a warm low end and articulate highs that have continued to open up over the decades. Common issues on surviving examples include repaired back-to-side seams near the heel block and high action that signals future setup work may be needed. No players have been documented in association with this model.
