Yamaha FG-201B

The Yamaha FG-201B is an orange label dreadnought built at Nippon Gakki in Japan from 1978 to 1980, with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck. It is one of the last fully Japanese-made, old-growth-era FG dreadnoughts before Yamaha shifted production to Taiwan in the early eighties. Buyers dating their instrument should note that two label eras overlap the production window: the orange label, used on Japanese-made examples from 1974 to 1985, and the white oval label, used on Taiwanese examples from 1977 to 2001. Owners describe a clear high end and a solid low end with naturally aged wood, and clean examples in original Yamaha hard cases are increasingly hard to find.
