Yamaha FG-200

The Yamaha FG-200 is a dreadnought acoustic produced from 1972 to 1976, built in both Japan and Taiwan, with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck. Depending on when a particular example was made, it may carry one of several label variants: the red label ran from 1967 to 1972 across Japan and Taiwan; the tan label from 1972 to 1975, also across both countries; the black label from 1974 to 1977 in Japan and Taiwan; and the orange label from 1974 to 1985 in Japan only. Collectors generally regard the Nippon Gakki made-in-Japan examples as the most desirable, and the label color is one of the most reliable ways to date and place a given instrument. Owners describe the top as producing a clear, balanced projection that improves with age, and the model has been noted for a chiming character that works well in recording contexts alongside guitars like a Martin. No prominent players have been formally documented with the FG-200.
