Yamaha FG-200

The Yamaha FG-200 is a dreadnought acoustic produced from 1972 to 1976, built in both Japan and Taiwan, with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck. The model spans multiple label eras: the Red label ran from 1967 to 1972 across Japan and Taiwan production; the Tan label followed from 1972 to 1975, again covering both countries; the Black label appeared from 1974 to 1977 in Japan and Taiwan; and the Orange label ran from 1974 to 1985 but applied to Japanese production only. Collectors particularly prize the Nippon Gakki MIJ red-label examples over later Taiwan production. Owners describe the tone as chimey with clear, balanced projection that improves as the top ages, and the guitar has been noted to double well against a Martin in recording contexts. Build quality is consistently described as solid and well-crafted for the period. No prominent players are currently documented as associated with this model.
