Yamaha FG-150
The Yamaha FG-150 was produced from 1966 through 1972, passing through three distinct label eras that collectors use to date surviving examples: a Green label used in 1966 for the Japanese domestic market, followed by a Red label from 1967 through 1972 covering production in both Japan and Taiwan, and finally a Tan label from 1972 through 1975 across both countries. Construction centers on a spruce top paired with mahogany back, sides, and neck. Manufactured in Japan by Nippon Gakki, the FG-150 is the smaller sibling to the FG-180 that launched the FG line, with a body shape closer to a 3/4 feel than a full dreadnought. Country Joe McDonald is among its documented players. Surviving examples frequently show the accumulated wear of decades of use, and many are found with maxed-out truss rods and missing or non-original tuners, making a thorough setup assessment an important step before purchase.
