Yamaha FG-150
The Yamaha FG-150 is a folk-size acoustic produced from 1966 through 1972, the smaller sibling to the FG-180 that helped launch the FG line. Its label history is one of the most reliable dating tools for collectors: the earliest examples carry a green label and were made in Japan only (1966); from 1967 through 1972, production shifted to the red label, with guitars built in both Japan and Taiwan; and beginning in 1972 the tan label appeared, again spanning both production countries through 1975. The guitar pairs a spruce top with mahogany back, sides, and neck. Country Joe McDonald played one. Surviving examples are not always easy to find in playable condition — many turn up with maxed-out truss rods, non-original tuners, or necks requiring a reset before upper-fret play is practical. The body shape reads closer to a 3/4 feel than a full dreadnought, and the instrument has remained a sought-after collector piece within the early FG series.
