Yamaha FG-140

The Yamaha FG-140 is a dreadnought produced from 1968 to 1972, built at the Nippon Gakki factory in Japan. Its construction features a laminated spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, rosewood bridge, and a rosewood fretboard, with a scale length of 25 inches and a nut width of 1-11/16 inches. Buyers dating their instrument should note the two label eras that overlap with this model's production run: the red label, used from 1967 to 1972 on guitars made in both Japan and Taiwan, and the tan label, which followed from 1972 to 1975 and likewise covered production from both countries. An FG-140 bearing a red label is therefore among the earliest examples, while a tan-label specimen dates to the final years of the run. John Martyn is among the documented players associated with the model. Survivors frequently show dings, scratches, and headstock damage from decades of hard use, though even well-worn examples are noted for remaining playable.
