Yamaha FG-110

The Yamaha FG-110 is a folk-size acoustic produced from 1967 to 1974, built first in Japan at the Nippon Gakki factory and later in Taiwan, with a spruce top, agathis back and sides, and a nato neck. Its label history is one of the most useful tools for dating a specific example: red labels ran from 1967 to 1972 on guitars made in both Japan and Taiwan; tan labels followed from 1972 to 1975, also covering both countries; black labels appeared from 1974 to 1977 across Japan and Taiwan; and orange labels ran from 1974 to 1985 on Japanese production only. Owners describe a velvety, harp-like midrange and a small body that sounds twice its size, with classic seventies Yamaha character that suits singer-songwriter work and lower-register fingerpicking. Common condition watch points are bowed necks and saddles run all the way down, since the truss rod is often near its limit on surviving examples.
